Panda Interactive takes legal action against Sportradar and Genius Sports

Panda Interactive, a Las Vegas-based solutions provider for the gambling industry, has filed patent infringement lawsuits against industry giants Sportradar and Genius Sports. The company alleged infringement on its interactive streaming technology patents.

Patent infringement claims

Panda Interactive, a subsidiary of SportsCastr Inc, specialises in providing solutions to sportsbooks, sports media companies and affiliates. It has initiated legal proceedings against Sportradar and Genius Sports. These lawsuits were filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas under case numbers 2-23-cv-00471 and 2-23-cv-00472, and the company has enlisted King & Spalding LLP to represent them in both cases.

Innovative video streaming products

Panda Interactive has a track record of launching video streaming products incorporating its patented technologies, including the widely recognized SportsCastr mobile app. These innovations evolved into the B2B Watch & Bet platform, which found application in sports media companies, leagues and sportsbooks.

The company claims that Sportradar and Genius Sports have introduced streaming products that allegedly infringe on Panda’s proprietary patented software.

Panda Interactive’s chairman, Donald Schupak, expressed their stance on the matter, stating, “We have made substantial investments in the development of our technology and cannot tolerate having our patented technology used unfairly by others and against us. No one wants to see their own arsenal used against them in battle.”

Panda’s allegations and industry implications

Panda Interactive alleges that the technology in question predates the legalization of online sports betting in the US, indicating that they developed similar technology before 2018. Panda Interactive CEO Kevin April emphasized the importance of their patented technology, stating, “Sportradar and Genius Sports are infringing on our patents and capitalizing on our groundbreaking work. The confluence of media and sports betting is essential to the future of the fan-viewing experience.”

This legal action comes at a time when Genius Sports secured an exclusive deal to supply the NFL with watch and bet streams. It is set to begin with US operator Caesars Entertainment and the Caesars Sportsbook. Both Sportradar and Genius Sports have declined to comment on the matter when contacted for a response.
