GKL and Kangwon Land sign personnel exchange agreement to optimise human resources

This agreement is part of the government’s strategy to enhance human resources

The two South Korean government-operated companies – Grand Korea Leisure and Kangwon Land – have entered into an agreement on limited exchange of personnel as part of the government’s strategy to enhance human resources.?

The initial stage of the agreement will entail only one employee from each company to be dispatched to the other for the period of a year, starting in October. However, the intention of the agreement is to create a system that will lead to additional exchanges in the future.?

For the first stage, Grand Korean Leisure will dispatch one of its experts on casino floor surveillance, while Kangwon Land will dispatch an expert on the prevention of gambling addiction.?

The head of Kangwon Land’s human resources team, Shin Dong-Hoon, said in a statement: “I look forward to creating a safe and healthy casino environment through personnel exchanges between public institutions.”?

GKL CEO?Yoo?Tae-Yeol added, “Through personnel exchanges we hope that the two organizations will learn and spread their operational know-how in various fields and that?this may become an opportunity for mutual development.”?

Kangwon?Land –?the largest casino?located in a remote area of the country and the only casino in Korea where locals?are allowed to?gamble –?has?reported a loss?of KRW 45.56 billion (US$38.4 million) in the second quarter of this year compared to a profit of KRW?50.94 billion (US$42.9 million) in the same period last year, due to the impacts brought about by the global pandemic.??

According to figures released by The National Gambling Control Commission in 2019, Kangwon Land outperformed South Korea’s foreigner-only casinos, with turnover rising 5.8 percent compared with a drop of 10.9 percent for 16 other properties.??

It received a total of 2.8 million visitors, an increase of 1.5 percent compared with the prior year.?
